Medical School:  University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine – 1989
Residency:  UMKC Family Medicine – 1992

My involvement with UMKC spans over 27 years including medical school, residency and faculty appointments and private practice experience. While a resident, I pursued an active interest in managing high-risk pregnancy and operative obstetrics. Upon graduation, I had performed more than one hundred C-sections and developed experience with laparoscopic tubal ligations, D&C’s and operative colposcopy.

It was a privilege to serve as Chief Resident and to be the first program graduate to be accepted directly out of residency to a faculty appointment. Upon completion of my wife’s residency, we worked in private practice in a small Midwestern town. Although, private practice was satisfying, I missed the academic environment and the UMKC family and returned as a faculty professor. I generally staff the night shifts and elective C-sections in the OR. I find working the night shift provides the best opportunity to work with residents one on one.

In addition to my clinical activities, I am very active in the administration and leadership of the residency program and hospital. Currently, I chair a number of committees and am involved in multiple ongoing projects for performance improvement, quality, strategic vision and planning and day to day operations.

Additionally, I serve as the Chief Medical Information Officer for Truman Medical Centers. In this role, I participate in developing and maintaining electronic medical records, strategic planning, quality improvement, systems design and application, standardization of workflows, best practice processes, and training and education. In my work, I try to integrate technology into modern healthcare for today while planning for tomorrow. I am active in the community and continue work developing a community health record.

In my spare time, I enjoy indoor and outdoor activities, especially those involving technology, or an engine!  I enjoy cooking, remodeling, auto racing, boating, fishing, football and golf. Landscaping and water gardening are a particular passion. Especially, when I can incorporate the use of my tractor!
