Dr. Harris

Medical Degree: University of Mississippi, Jackson, MS
Residency: St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Residency Program, Jacksonville, FL
(Chief Resident)

I am originally from West Virginia. I lived there until the seventh grade. I spent my adolescent years in St. Petersburg Florida where I attended Lakewood High School and the University of South Florida where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Chemistry. I left Florida for my medical degree and masters of science degree in Immunology. I returned to Florida for residency and after a two year National Health Corp obligation in a rural area, I started solo medical practice in Palm Harbor, Florida until 1997. At that time I joined the faculty at the family practice residency program at Bayfront Medical Center. In 2000, I was inaugurated as President of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians; an organization I had been a member since my residency.

In 2003, I moved from Florida and came to the Midwest where I became a faculty member in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and Truman Medical Center. I enjoy teaching inpatient and outpatient medical care and my daily interactions with the medical students and residents.
My main areas of interest are in sports medicine, adolescent medicine, women’s health care, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. I also enjoy writing poetry, reading murder/mystery books, and enjoying time with my wife and two boys.
