Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? because it was close to home and I really enjoyed working with all the friendly residents and attendings during my Sub-I.

What are your goals and interests? My goals are to bo back to a small town to practice family medicine in a group practice.

My interests are spending time with friends and family and doing anything that involves the outdoors.

When did you decide to become a doctor? Junior High school

What interested you about Family Medicine? I like the diversity both in the ages of patients that you see as well as their presenting complaints. Also, I wanted to choose a specialty that would allow me to practice in a small town.

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? I really wanted to stay in the KC area, and the UMKC program seemed to be the best in the area at providing a well-rounded education with the depth of OB experience I desire.

What are your goals and interests? I hope to be a wonderful mother and wife. Eventually I plan to practice in a rural area in Kansas. I would like to have a large OB population in my practice, and would like to perform C-sections.

When did you decide to become a doctor? I've known since I was a young child that I wanted to be a doctor.

What interested you about Family Medicine? I love how family medicine provides such a wide variety of conditions, diseases and patients.

What are your goals and interests? I enjoy shopping, quiet nights at home with my new husband, reading fun books, horseback riding, spending time with my family, antique shopping and watching tv (Seinfeld re-runs, reality shows) and movies (Braveheart & Seabiscuit)

When did you decide to become a doctor? After Mission trip - realized what good I could do and how much I gained from helping others compassionately.

What interested you about Family Medicine? Variety!!

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? Though we're not from K.C., we really love the area. I did a rotation here as a 4th year student and really felt like I fit in.

What are your goals and interests? My goals are to work in a small group in a medium sized community away from the city. I'd like to be doing complete Family Medicine, including obstetrics. My wife and I love the outdoors. We love camping and hiking. We also love to curl up on the couch with a good movie.

When did you decide to become a doctor? Probably in high school. I always admired my doctors as a kid.

What interested you about Family Medicine? The ability to take care of the entire family from birth through adulthood.

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? I choose UMKC for my residency because of the family friendly atmosphere. My family is very important to me and I felt that the leadership in this program is very family oriented as well.  I felt very welcomed and at home when I did rotations at Truman Lakewood.

What are your goals and interests? My goal is to have a rural family practice with strong OB, Peds and office procedures.  I would like to care for entire families and be able to make a difference in a community.

When did you decide to become a doctor? I was originally a pediatric nurse and after working as a nurse for five years decided that I wanted to have a practice of my own in which I could take care of my own patients the way that I would want my family members cared for.

What interested you about Family Medicine? The ability to have a profound affect on the way people live their lives.  I hope to be able to teach people how to live healthy, happy lives and to help them prevent illness.  Family medicine encompasses all aspects of the patient and they count on their general practitioners to guide and watch over their care even if they are being cared for by specialists.

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? Love the area. I'm close to family. I really liked that UMKC is an unopposed program.

What is it like being a resident? It is a lot less glamorous than on Scrubs or Grey's Anatomy. There are a lot of long hours and hard work, but ultimately it is worth it. It is a time in your life when you are learning new things every day, and impacting so many people's lives.

What are you going to do after residency? I plan on moving back to Reno, NV with my family. For sure I will be involved with medical education (most likely as a community preceptor).

What advice would you give? Try not to be too hard on yourselves and don't be afraid to ask for help.

What interested you about Family Medicine? I love the diversity of family medicine and the continuity of care.

When did you decide to become a doctor? I decided to become a physician during my undergraduate years. I experienced a lot of loss during this time with multiple family members passing away. These experiences were very instrumental in my decision to go into medicine.

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? I spent time with the program as a medical student and had a great time. The residents and faculty are unsurpassed and the program offers great opportunities to become skilled in all areas of family medicine.

What are your goals and interests? To become proficient in the art of medicine, be a good father and husband. I enjoy carpentry, landscape, cycling, playing with my kids, reading and slapstick movies.

When did you decide to become a doctor? One morning very early while driving a bread truck.

What interested you about Family Medicine? It deals with the challenges of everyday life.

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? The location was right for my family and I liked the "community feel" of TMC-Lakewood. I felt like I could get great training and be a good mother and wife during this time.

What are your goals and interests? To return back to my hometown, Cameron, MO and work for the CRMC as a staff physician. I am also interested in community service and the political side of medicine.

When did you decide to become a doctor? When I was very young. I honestly can't remember exactly when, it seems like forever.

What interested you about Family Medicine? I liked being able to take care of all of my patients needs and problems. I also like the continuity that family medicine affords.

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? I was intrigued by the philosophy and structure. 'Servant-based' leadership applied to a training program.

What are your goals and interests? To be the best physician that I can possibly be.

When did you decide to become a doctor? I believe that people are 'called' to be physicians. That said, daily we are given the choice to get up and go into a hospital or clinic to give our patients the very best care. I chose this path because there is nothing more satisfying.

What interested you about Family Medicine? The versatility...the challenge.

What are your goals and interests? I would like to be able to balance a career as a physician with quality time with my family. I am most interested in women's health and End of Life issues.

When did you decide to become a doctor? When I was 16, I was watching 'Father of the Bride, Part II' and when the OB/Gyn in the movie delivered Steve Martin's daughter & grandchild, I thought, Hey, I could deliver babies for a living..."

What interested you about Family Medicine? Options!! I also loved that many family physicians I met were happy with both their professional and personal lives.
