Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? Love the area.
I'm close to family. I really liked that UMKC is an unopposed program.
What is it like being a resident? It is a lot less glamorous than on Scrubs or Grey's Anatomy. There are a lot of long hours and hard work, but ultimately it is worth it. It is a time in your life when you are learning new things every day, and impacting so many people's lives.
What are you going to do after residency? I plan on moving back to Reno, NV with my family. For sure I will be involved with medical education (most likely as a community preceptor).
What advice would you give? Try not to be too hard on yourselves and don't be afraid to ask for help.
What interested you about Family Medicine? I love the diversity
of family medicine and the continuity of care.
When did you decide to become a doctor? I
decided to become a physician during my undergraduate years. I experienced
a lot of loss during this time with multiple family members passing away. These
experiences were very instrumental in my decision to go into medicine.
