Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? I was impressed with the program’s organization and training. I liked the unopposed program and the chance to work in a safety net hospital. The residents finish well prepared to practice anywhere.
What are your goals and interests? My goal is to provide my patients with the best care that I can. As for my interests, I am interested in preventive medicine. As the old saying goes, ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!’
When did you decide to become a doctor? I started my career in the sciences and kept inching closer and closer to medicine. While I enjoyed research, I also wanted to help people more immediately, so I went to medical school.
What interested you about Family medicine? I really like being able to treat the entire family, from the baby to the grandparents. I also enjoy the variety of problems seen in family medicine as well as the variety of settings in which I can practice.

Why did you choose UMKC for your residency? Growing up I was able to see first hand why UMKC has a wonderful Family Medicine residency program. My father was one of the first graduates of the Family Medicine residency program at UMKC. He is one of the best and most respected physicians I know and his education plays a very large role in that.
What are your goals and interests? I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy spending time outside whether it is hiking, gardening or playing tennis, I enjoy it all. Animals hold a special place in my heart, especially my two cats. I am very interested in Palliative care. In the future, I hope to have an active rural Family Medicine practice while playing an active role in Hospice/Palliative Care.
When did you decide to become a doctor? If you asked my parents, they would say it was the age of two that I first wanted to be a doctor. It was then that I was caught playing with my dad’s stethoscope, prescription pad and pen. There is not a time I don’t remember wanting to be a doctor.
What interested you about Family medicine? I love the relationships you are able to build with your patients in Family Medicine. It is unlike any other field in that you are able to be an integral part of a family’s dynamics for many years. In addition, Family Medicine allows you to practice in a wide variety of fields making each day a new adventure.
